PIERRE, S.D. — OK, so I was a little disappointed for not winning any newspaper contest awards from the South Dakota Newspaper Association. But, I still have reason to celebrate because the paper I work for, the Capital Journal, won the highest award in its category — the General Excellence award for newspapers with circulations under 15,000.
Out of the papers in our category, our newspaper is probably the smallest one. But, we rock. The contest entries were judged by members of the Nevada Press Association, as to remove any conflicts of interest the SDNA may have with papers in the state.
The general excellence award allows newspapers to submit two random issues from dates specified by the SDNA. One entry can be submitted by the newspaper.
The awards judged everything from layout, news stories, proper styles and accuracy, ad composition, impact — just the overall specs of the paper.
The newsroom celebrated with a hamburger grilling and pot luck April 9. Yummy!
Oh yeah. My cat Toppers now has a CatSpace page… check it out — > http://apps.facebook.com/catbook/profile.php?id=1462594
